Morgenland بلادالمشرق
They suffer with the ill-fated lovers Laila and Madschnun; they sing Fairouz songs in the morning and revere the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish. Hailing from Egypt, Palestine, Syria and Tunisia, they have lived in Dresden for a few months or several years. They dispel prejudices and clichés about deserts and camels, the Western view of the Orient and One Thousand and One Nights, and romantic notions of turbans, genies and belly dancing. The eleven actors and musicians from 'Morgenland' invite you to discover their culture and personal stories. They talk about children's songs and games, first love, three-day weddings, family cohesion, the modern city of Cairo and rival clans in villages. They write poems for their mothers, talk about their arrival in Germany, worry about the political situation in their home countries, and debate tradition and religion – just like us, only different.
