"Odysseus, Verbrecher"
by Christoph Ransmayr.
After twenty years of wandering, Odysseus, the king of Ithaca and the glorious warrior who invented the Trojan horse, finally returns home. He lands on the beach of his island, which appears to be deserted and in chaos — a landscape of rubble and rubbish mountains.
The Aufbruch ensemble, comprising ex-prisoners, day release prisoners and actors, performs 'The Story of a Homecoming' at the former BVB outdoor swimming pool in Lichtenberg. Built as a training facility for the 1936 Summer Olympics, the pool is now home to toads and frogs. When someone returns home after spending many years in a male-only community where conflicts are resolved through violence, they become a problem for the family they left behind, consisting of growing children and single mothers. How many such returnees can a society tolerate?
