CHAMBER OPERA BY HAUKE BERHEIDE & AMY STEBBINS
A human figure wanders alone through a world that they believe they created. Dripping water seems to indicate a fault in the system. The Ego embarks on a search and encounters the bones of a polar explorer, a miner and a Mayan priest in the labyrinth.
All three died at the hands of the natural force of water, from which the EGO cannot escape either. Confronted with these aspects of their past, the solid walls surrounding the ego slowly begin to shake, as does their self-image.
Audience members take their seats in an immersive installation that transports them into the interior of a computer, complete with sound, light and decoration. Hauke Berheide and Amy Stebbins have created a piece combining sound installation, opera plot and virtual reality to provide an immersive theatre experience.
