Der Wind in den Weiden
Children's opera to sing along with by Elena Kats-Chernin, with a libretto by Jens Luckwaldt based on Kenneth Grahame's book of the same name.
A cautious mole who hates cleaning, a daring water rat who wants to explore the world and a boastful toad who loves fast cars: these are just some of the enchanting characters from the classic English children's book, The Wind in the Willows. Their bizarre and fantastical adventures finally conquered the musical theatre stage in 2021 in the form of an opera by Elena Kats-Chernin, this year's Composer in Residence. Kats-Chernin has created a version especially for Theater Magdeburg's tried-and-tested format of interactive children's opera, which allows school classes (with children aged 6 to 12) and families to participate directly in the music and staging. Don't be afraid of contemporary music, and don't be afraid of the nasty weasels who want to take over Toad Hall – they're coming to life in the concert hall!
